Founder Bill Grant Brings a “Who’s Who” of Wrestling every year to the Monterey Peninsula. At 41 Years, the 2019 edition is as star-studded as ever.
SportStars INSIDER, Al Fontes (The California Wrestler Editor in Chief) wrote a historical perspective of the Monterey Clinic of Champions this past August, which can be read here in the MARINES FIGHTING SPIRIT High School Wrestling pages. In it, Al outlines the list of Olympic and World Team member presenters.
Wrestling’s Grandest Stage
Many remember as a kid watching the USA compete on the worlds largest stage in Olympic Roman Greco wrestling. The men, many of whose names we never could quite pronounce, but whom we sat in awe of, will be here. The band, as they say, will be in some hallowed and historic surroundings.
As the 2019 iteration marking the 41st Annual Clinic of Champions approaches October 25th – 27th, spectators will be treated to a veritable who’s who at the Embassy Suites in Pacific Grove.
The pioneer behind this long-established clinic is California and National Hall-of-Fame recipient Bill Grant. Within national wrestling circles, Bill is considered by many to be among the top promoters of wrestling in the Golden State and abroad. That’s the inspiration for todays’ young athletes and why they are encouraged attend the spectacle.
The A List: Star Studded Celebs of International Wrestling
Among the celebrities of wrestling are ESPY winners and Olympians, USA Gold level coaches and Freestyle Masters. All carry a list of accomplishments as long as your arm.
A short clinic schedule follows. For more information about attending the Clinic and to see the list and accomplishments of the Olympic and World Team members, see Al’s story or visit the clinic website.
AL FONTES “aka, Coach Al” has over 38 years service in the sport of wrestling. He has served as the California State Editor of the California Wrestler Newsletter since 1995.
