It’s a record-breaking year for the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA), with a 30 percent overall increase in girls’ volleyball team registrations for elite tournaments that are part of its Power League.

This significant surge in volleyball registration reveals the growing popularity of the sport and is a testament to how it continues to flourish in a region already known for its volleyball excellence.

The NCVA reports unprecedented growth in every age division within the Power League for the girls’ 2024-2025 season.

The 17/18 division leads the charge with a 35 percent increase in registrations, followed closely by the 16 division at 30 percent. Meanwhile, the 15 division has expanded by 34 percent, and the 14 division has the highest jump with a 40 percent increase.

Younger age groups are experiencing significant growth, showcasing emerging talent. The 13 division saw a 15 percent increase, while the 12 division grew by 26 percent. The youngest competitors in the 11 division experienced a significant 36 percent rise in registrations, signaling an increasing interest in volleyball at an early age.

NCVA Commissioner Donna Donahy expressed excitement about the league’s growth, stating, We’re excited for this new season. The growth across all divisions shows how much the sport is growing in a region where volleyball already excels.

What This Means for Girls’ Volleyball

The growth of NCVA’s Power League signifies more opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills, compete at the elite level, and gain exposure to collegiate scouts and recruiters. With more teams entering tournaments, players can face a wider range of competition. This then can help enhance skills for athletes.

The increase in participation also highlights the organizers, coaches, and parents who continue to support young volleyball talent. This support and commitment ensures that the sport remains accessible and continues to thrive.

Looking Ahead to an Exciting Season

As the 2024/2025 Girls Volleyball season continues, players can continue to anticipate what promises to be a landmark year for Power League. This includes the upcoming President’s Day Tournament that kicked off this weekend.

With the highest number of teams registered, the competition will be more intense than ever, making this season one to watch.

As teams prepare for the upcoming matches, one thing is certain—this season is shaping up to be the most competitive and exhilarating yet.
