Matt loves coaching youth sports and working to share his passion for the game of basketball. Matt's love of the game started early as the son of John Clawson, winner of both a gold medal for Team USA at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, and an ABA Championship with the Oakland Oaks in 1969.

Matt played at San Ramon Valley High School under coach John Raynor, leading SRVHS to an NCS Title in 1989. Matt went on to play at Cal Poly, where he finished his career in 1994 among Cal Poly's top-ten career leaders in points, steals, assists and three pointers.

Matt believes youth sports has evolved to a place where there is too much business and not enough fun. Youth sports primarily exist as a vehicle for our children to play. His goal is promote good sportsmanship, strong work ethic, and a love for the sport. Winning is secondary. Half our kids will lose each game, but all should have an opportunity to love playing and enjoy the competition.

We are pleased to have Kevin Smith join Wolfpack! He brings many years of basketball and coaching experience to the organization. Born into a basketball family, Kevin's father was drafted to the Milwaukee Bucks - the first student drafted to the NBA from the University of Hawaii. Kevin's older brother is currently an assistant coach in the WNBA for the Connecticut Sun. His younger brother played for UNLV and is currently a D1 associate head coach at Cal State Fullerton. Naturally, Kevin grew up playing basketball in Southern California everyday. He played for Skyline Jr. College while working full time. He headed into business and a family soon followed. He embarked on his youth coaching career 21 years ago when his oldest son turned 5. He's coached in LA City leagues, CYO and AAU leagues. He scouted for both Riverside City and San Bernardino Valley Colleges. His graduating classes of 2015-2016 include 15 kids currently playing college basketball at all levels. This includes his own son and SRV grad, Keith Smith, a freshman at D1 VMI. Kevin's passion for teaching life lessons through the game of basketball comes through in all he does. Kevin loves working with youth focusing on the solid foundations needed to play the game. He places a major emphasis on the fundamentals of the game and spends a great deal of time developing skills needed to succeed on the court.
