Walnut Creek Aquanuts send 37 athletes to Us Nationals competition

37 members of the Walnut Creek Aquanuts synchronized swimming team are set to compete for a national title at the 2014 U.S. eSynchro Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships in Federal Way Washington. The meet, scheduled June 27-July 5th is the largest synchronized swimming meet in the world , drawing over 1000 swimmers and featuring competitions in four age groups: 12 and under, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.
WCA will be competing in team, solo, duet and trio competitions. They qualified for the national championships by placing among the top three finishers at the regional championships held in Walnut Creek, CA last month. The “Region B” event featured competitors from Santa Clara, Monterey, Sacramento, and Marin.
WCA fought hard against very stiff competition to dominate in several categories. The 10 and under A team took 1st place in the team event, the 11/12A and B teams both took 2nd and 3rd consecutively, and the 13/15A team took 2nd. WCA earned top spots in Solo, Duet and Trio competitions.
Top Performances:
- Tiernan Lynch, age 9 from Walnut Creek placed 3rd in Solo, 1st in Duet.
- Emma Ngo, age 10 from Lafayette placed 1st in Duet
- Yara Elian, age 11 from Lafayette earned a 2nd place in Solo,
- Daria Torba age 14 from Orinda took 1st in Solo and 2nd in Duet
- Lauren Simonelli age 14 from Walnut Creek placed second in Duet.
For many this event will be the culmination of their season after having practiced and competed for the previous 10 months at progressively higher levels to earn a spot in this competition.

The Walnut Creek Aquanuts (WCA) is a world-renowned synchronized swim club based in Walnut Creek, California. Over its 45-year history, WCA has trained over 30 Olympic athletes and garnered more than 200 national and world competition titles.
