Nominees For Our Inaugural SportSquad Team Of The Week Honors Include Two Swim Teams, One Baseball And One Softball Program •

THIS VOTE HAS ENDED — #SPORTSQUAD NOMINEES FOR MAY 8-14 WILL BE OUT BY NOON ON MAY 16

We’re using this last month of the 2022-23 interscholastic sports calendar to try out a new weekly feature at SportStars. We thought about joining the parade of media outlets offering Athlete of the Week votes, but then thought, ‘Why not do the same thing but for team accomplishments?’ And thus, welcome to the first vote for the weekly SportSquad, our take on the NorCal Team of the Week.

Fans can vote every six hours, up to four times a day if you time it right. The winning team will be honored on the website each Friday. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. Thursday night. SCROLL TO BOTTOM TO CAST VOTE

Let’s meet this week’s nominees (listed in same order as the vote below):

PALO ALTO BOYS SWIMMING: The Vikings dominated the Central Coast Section Swimming Championship with wins in eight different events. Arthur Balva and Ethan Harrington each won two, and Henry Gibbs won one. Harrington also set the meet record in the 50-yard freestyle (breaking the one he set last year).

WINDSOR BASEBALL: With two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Jaguars came from behind to beat NorCal No. 2-ranked Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa 5-4 last Wednesday. It’s as the Cardinals first loss of the season. Windsor finished 2-1 on the week, falling to Newman on Friday and beating Vintage-Napa 8-6 on Saturday.

CARONDELET-CONCORD SWIMMING: Bailey Hartman won both the 100 and 500 freestyle to lead a Cougars team that posted eight Top 3 finishes to edge out defending champion Campolindo and claim the program’s first North Coast Section title since 2013.

ST. FRANCIS-MOUNTAIN VIEW SOFTBALL: The Lancers were about as dominant as they come in a 3-0 week that saw them outscore opponents 31-1. On Friday’s NorCal No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown, Saint Francis avenged its mid-April loss to No. 1 Mitty-San Jose behind a 2-0 no-hit shutout from Kate Munnerlyn.

Time to vote for Team of the Week! Get to it.
