Performance accessory brand SPIbelt announced its partnership with elite marathoner and Peloton instructor Becs Gentry to provide consumers with a new running belt that is designed on the pro athletes’ feedback and experiences.
SPIbelt’s founder, Kim Overton, describes the partnership as a natural one after the women connected over family values and the importance of physical and mental health. Together, the women have the goal to empower athletes of all fitness levels.
“I’m beyond excited to partner with Becs, as she’s not only a powerhouse runner, but also an incredibly inspiring voice in the global running community,” said Overton in a press release. “Her energy, approachable nature, and commitment to lifting up other runners align perfectly with everything SPIbelt stands for.”
Gentry is known for completing seven marathons in seven countries over seven days as part of the Great World Race in 2024. She chose SPIbelt as a “trusted companion for several of those runs.”
SPIbelt (Small Personal Item Belt) is a running belt designed to hold small personal items during activities like running, walking, or traveling. Runners espeically love it for its no bounce while moving.
“Having support in all ways for running is key,” said Gentry. “Carrying a phone can be annoying, cumbersome, and painful. Not with SPIbelt. Knowing I can take my phone with me and not feel it is integral to feeling good on a run. Most importantly, my safety comes first. Having a phone on me, especially as a female who runs solo and early in the morning, is a huge bonus. SPIbelts have become an accessory to my runs that I actually have fun with. Color coordination helps hype me up for the hard runs and boosts my mood in a great way, so I am thrilled to be partnering with them!”
Details about the actual product launch—including specific features, pricing, and availability—have not yet been fully disclosed. SPIbelt states that those will be announced “at a later date.”
However, Youth Runner spoke to Gentry about what runners can expect. “My custom SPIbelt will reflect a lot about my running community and the energy and values that are important within it,” the former Peloton instructor said. “It will, of course, be fun, too.”
Gentry emphasized how the right gear impacts her mental and physical performance in training and racing.
“The right gear ensures you’re not weighed down with extra concerns to get out the door,” she said. “There are enough hurdles available trying to impede most of us from popping out the door for a run. When your gear is set and supports you, you can focus on the aspects of running that need proper attention, such as pacing! Specifically on race day, I don’t want anything around me that isn’t going to accentuate my race positively. The right gear is almost a silent partner, aiding you to the finish line with quiet confidence.”
She also said that it is important for runners to be able to carry their items seamlessly.
“SPIbelt is a non-negotiable on my runs for my phone and my nutrition, and any extra items I might need – headphone case, lip balm, cards. Depending on the quantity and weight of the things I want to bring with me, the SPIbelt is adjustable and expandable, making it perfect for super short and super long runs! Finding gear that works for you is imperative to your comfort on the run. I’m pretty sure you’ll love this belt as much as I do!”
