Del Norte prevails against St. Augustine to secure first CIF-San Diego Section Open Division boys soccer crown

Andre Lopez scored a rebound goal in the 23rd minute following a shot by Jared Baza to lift top-seeded Del Norte to a 1-0 boys soccer victory against No. 3 St. Augustine in the CIF-San Diego Section Open Division championship Feb. 28 at Chick Embrey Field in Wilson Stadium on the campus of Escondido High.

Michael Alvarado recorded seven saves for the Nighthawks, who won the first Open Division crown in program history and secured their first section title since capturing the Division 1 championship in 2022.

Aidan Swearingen recorded nine saves for St. Augustine, which had won the past three Open Division championships, including last year in a shootout against Del Norte.
