Team Walnut Creek Aquanuts, our local synchronized swim members take to the podium, scoring 146.574 points, and missing gold by only 3.6 points at last weekends Louisville, TX competition. The U.S. Nationals medal along with Trials win, also assures Miko Begossi of Alamo and Marlena King (Clayton) a spot on the 2018 U.S. National Team. On April 11-15, 19 Jr. and 13-15 athletes from the Walnut Creek Aquanuts competed in Louisville at the U.S. Nationals in team, solo, and duet events.
Athletes from all over the country must qualify to compete in this prestigious event.
Junior soloist, Ava Jih-Schiff of Danville placed 6th in solo overall.
WCA Juniors took the silver medal in the team event.
In the 13-15 age category, soloist Marlena King of Clayton placed 8th and first-time qualifier, Alexis McCracken of Walnut Creek, placed 12th.
In Duet, Sophia Kong and Miko Begossi missed the podium by just one point placing 4th overall and Megan Kerner and partner, Ariana Stanton placed 9th in the nation.
Walnut Creek Aquanuts qualified two teams in the 13-15 category.
After a grueling week of preliminary rounds, WCA took the silver medal as well as 6th place in the team event.
On the final day of competition, five WCA members competed for spots on the U.S. National 13-15 team. Two athletes out of the five qualified to represent the United States internationally this summer; Miko Begossi of Alamo and Marlena King will be members of the 2018 U.S. National Team.
All of these athletes train over twenty-five hours a week in preparation for the Nationals. Next they will join the rest of the Aquanuts club for a Celebration of Champions May 5th at Larkey Swim Center.
This year marks 50 years for the Walnut Creek Aquanuts.
The City has partnered with WCA to create a commemorative wall at Larkey. The site of the club’s inception in 1968. The mosaic wall will be revealed at the May 5th show and auction event.
“The Walnut Creek Aquanuts is a world-renowned synchronized swimming club whose mission is to develop athletes from novice to elite, building both bodies and minds and instilling skills that will serve our swimmers throughout their lifetime.” The club is known for sending athletes to the Olympics.
