Outstanding Senior: Pete Crow-Armstrong, Harvard-Westlake
Nothing is more outstanding than turning professional out of high school. That’s what Harvard-Westlake’s Pete Crow-Armstrong did on June 25 after being selected by the New York Mets 19th overall in the MLB Draft on June 10, inking a minor league contract with a $3,359,000 signing bonus.
Crow-Armstrong leaves the Harvard-Westlake baseball program as the best position player ever. He finishes his career with the Wolverines as a record holder in hits, runs, at-bats and on-base percentage despite having his senior season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was named the Los Angeles Daily News baseball Player of the Year in 2019 as a junior after anchoring the Wolverines to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 title game at Dodger Stadium. Crow-Armstrong hit .395 with 47 hits in 34 games, driving in 23 runs and knocking three home runs. His most impressive numbers, however, were just seven strikeouts and scoring 40 runs last season.
In just 10 games this abbreviated season, Crow-Armstrong had 17 hits, scored 17 runs, 12 RBIs and launched two home runs. He was hitting .515 and likely on his way to another Daily News player of the year campaign.

Forgoing the baseball scholarship to Vanderbilt and pursuing his journey to the big leagues makes Crow-Armstrong part of an elite list of Harvard-Westlake baseball players drafted out of high school in the first round with Jack Flaherty, Max Fried and Lucas Giolito – all pitchers. Crow-Armstrong is the first-ever position player drafted in the first round out of Harvard-Westlake.
