Two Top High School Football Teams in the Northeast Hit Our Radar as Teams to Watch this Season

The high school football season is a little over a month away and across the nation, excitement levels are building. In a less than a month’s time, teams throughout the Eastern states, including two powerhouses in Western Pennsylvania will start their season. Players will come together for workouts and double days, all shooting for a starting position on the team. Two teams hit our Northeast Watch list spotlight.

Looking at their neighbors to the north, Canada, which has a pretty active Canadian Football League, (the counterpart of the NFL), there is a buzzing high school football scene as well.

A great number of sports fans back their favorite teams by betting on the CFL as well as attending the games in person. If not at the stadiums, many of them follow the action on their  phone apps, TVs or through live streaming.

Let’s get acquainted with the top two high school football teams that should be closely followed in the upcoming season.

Peters Township

The Peters Township Indians managed to score 4 collective wins for the first time ever in the last 8 years. They got through to the play-offs with their campaign ending only with a narrow 22-14 loss in the semi-finals to the eventual champions of the Class 5A WPIAL and PIAA, Penn Hills. It was the first time ever that the Indians made it to the play-offs for two straight years, since 2012-2013.

Logan Pfeuffer, the quarterback who excelled last season, returns for his junior year. He’ll have all kinds of offensive weapons up his sleeve, including Josh Casilli, the exceptional senior wide receiver and running back, Ryan Magiske.

Magiske (Sr.), is expected to bring his powerful running style and will provide the much-needed balance to the team’s highflying offense. He scored 19 touchdowns on 1,133 yards last season.

Casilli has already received multiple scholarship offers after his 11 touchdowns, 892 yards and 51 catches in 2018. Aidan McCall also makes a return at the cornerback and wide receiver slots.

Another NorEastern powerhouse, the Washington, PA Prexies, expect their success to come from their defensive and offensive lines.

Washington Country

Another NorEastern powerhouse, the Washington, PA Prexies, expect their success to come from their defensive and offensive lines.

Zakhi Marshall (6’, 285 pounds), Chase Mitchell (6’5”, 340 pounds) and Gerald Comedy (6’3”, 295 pounds) dominate the line and plan on winning the majority of battles at the line of scrimmage.

Wide out Zahmere Robinson, and QB Zack Swartz make a 1-2 combination that is guaranteed to give the oppositions’ defenses major headaches. Swartz, with his 2,285 passing yards stood ninth in the WPIAL standings. http://wpial.org/wp-content/uploads/High-School-Football-Standings-2018.pdf

He ran for another 13 and threw 28 touchdowns.

Zahmere Robinson burst onto the high school football scene a season earlier, scoring 10

TDs, 1,120 yards on 23 catches, averaging 21+ yards each reception!

Both these players were also the members of Fabulous 15 during their junior days.

If running back Dylan Asbury can steer clear of injuries, the Prexies will be a force to reckon with in the upcoming high school football season.
