Phoebe Demoss scores nine goals for San Clemente in CIF-Southern Section Division 1 girls water polo semifinal win over Alta Loma; Siena Jumani has 13 saves to lift Laguna Beach past Dos Pueblos, into another final

Phoebe Demoss produced one of the most impressive performances in CIF-Southern Section girls water polo playoff history Tuesday, scoring nine goals to lift San Clemente to an 11-7 victory in the Division 1 semifinals against Alta Loma at Capistrano Valley High in Mission Viejo.

Demoss, a UC Santa Barbara-bound senior, converted on all nine shot attempts, in addition to recording four steals for the Tritons (22-8), who advanced to the Division 1 championship match for the first time in program history.

San Clemente has competed in the Division 2 finals four times, capturing its lone title in 2011.

The Tritons reached a section championship match for the first time since 2020.

Macey Punak contributed five assists, with Talyn Pelkey adding a goal, an assist and two steals, along with Adley Dawson adding a goal and an assist for the Tritons.

Emmi Franklin had two assists, with Tera Lindberg and Sophia Reardon combining for nine saves for San Clemente, which denied Alta Loma (16-15) a third consecutive appearance in the section finals.

The Braves won the Division 4 title in 2023 and captured the Division 2 crown last season.

San Clemente will square off at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College with Laguna Beach (19-11), a 6-2 semifinal winner against Dos Pueblos (18-11).

The teams split head-to-head matchups during the regular season, but have never squared off in a section final.

Laguna Beach 6, Dos Pueblos 2: The Breakers (19-11) held visiting Dos Pueblos (18-11) scoreless in both the opening and final quarters to secure a Division 1 semifinal victory at El Toro High in Lake Forest.

Presley Jones, a UCLA-bound senior, had two goals and two assists for Laguna Beach, which received a goal and 13 saves from UC Santa Barbara-bound senior goalkeeper Siena Jumani.

The Breakers advanced to a section final for the first time since competing in the inaugural Open Division championship match in 2022.

Laguna Beach, which plays San Clemente (22-8) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, is seeking its first Division 1 title since winning back-to-back crowns in 2019-20.

The Breakers have won seven section championships in program history.

Kara Carver and Rosie Rogers both contributed a goal and an assist, with Brooke Schneider also scoring and Ava Guziak adding an assist for Laguna Beach.

Alina King and Devereaux Wigo had goals for Dos Pueblos, which endured its lowest scoring output of the season.
